An IoT gateway is a network device that acts as a bridge between sensors and cloud platforms. It handles protocol translation, data preprocessing, local storage, and security functions, enabling edge computing capabilities.
How Does IoT Gateway Work?
An IoT gateway collects data from different protocols (LoRaWAN, Modbus, BLE, Zigbee) and converts them to cloud protocols such as MQTT, HTTP, or AMQP. With edge computing capabilities, it can process, filter, or compress data locally. When connectivity is lost, it stores data locally (store-and-forward). TLS encryption and firewall functions ensure IoT security.
